Matt Smith. A 26 year old from Northampton will be the 11th actor to play the 903 year old lonely Time Lord from Gallifrey. The news broke yesterday and the geek forums are in meltdown. And yes, I was on one of them just after 5am this morning.
Hmmm. My first impression is that he's a little young, in fact I'm old enough to be his mother (if I'd been one of those girls at school who took Sex Education way too far) but from what I've seen of his acting I think he'll do well. David Tennant is going to be hard act to follow.
Good luck, Matt. See you in 2010.

isn't it interesting to read everyone's opinions and predictions! I'm especially loving the "i'm never watching doctor who ever again" naysayers!!
I look forward to seeing what he can bring to the role, he's stepping into some big shoes. I think he'll be a darker doctor and very good at stepping up.
Yes, I think the 'I'm never watching Who again' people just do just that and eff off.
I think he looks good, that is a great pic, getting in the mood. I agree he has big shoes to fill, but I am looking forward to 2010!
I was watching the Dr.Who Confidential show live as they announced it and despite being convinced that it would be a relatively unknown actor even I went, "Who?" when they cut to him for the first time.
I do think he's young to pull it off and with losing Russell T Davies at the same time there will, I'm sure, be a lot of sad folk waiting for it to all fall apart. Personally I'm glad Russell has finished as I think he's already gone as far as he can (I've been less than impressed with large aspects of most of his recent tales) whereas I do like Moffat's stuff.
But ultimately who knows....I look forward to it but as you say, Tennant will be a very hard act to follow. I felt like I knew both his and Eccleston's work pretty well beforehand and felt that the Dr. would be safe with them, whereas although I've seen Matt in a couple of things he's very much the unknown.......in a good way I hope.
Interesting. He looks like he will do a good line in brooding. But if Captain Jack goes for him it will be cradle snatching.
